Tinkerplay

Creating 3D characters can be complicated and time-consuming if you don't have the right tools. Tinkerplay is an application developed by Autodesk which includes the best tools for creating 3D animation. It's so easy, the entire process is like solving a simple puzzle.

Before using Tinkerplay, you should decide whether you want to start with pre-made character templates or from scratch. If you decide to play around with one of the templates, you will only be able to change the physical appearance of the character, whereas if you start from scratch, you can choose from any number of arms, legs, bodies, and heads to get exactly the look you're going for.

Tinkerplay is designed to print three-dimensional figures, too, so download the files as .thing or .stl if you want to turn them into physical objects. Don't forget that each file is one of the body parts you'll have to connect later, so make sure they're all accounted for.

There is also a collaborative option where you can invent characters with your friends with multitouch. This way, two or more people can create and edit parts from the same screen without any complications. In this mode, all the changes will be automatically saved so you can easily return to your project.
